Bio

Charles Thomas Martin was born in Indiana. Growing up, his family frequently relocated throughout the Midwest. He settled in Nashville, TN in the late 1980's where he still lives and has been immersed in a wide variety of music and music scenes.

In the early 1990's he worked as an apprentice (a common practice at the time) doing technical maintenance in some of the largest and most famous recording studios in Nashville, TN. Since the late 1990's he has worked in the technical side of the medical imaging field.

He currently records original music for guitars. His music is generally optimistic, upbeat, or relaxed with the lead guitars filling the vocal roles. These draw on his rock, blues, and jazz influences.

He has been fascinated by music since early childhood. He started playing guitar at age 15. He was heavily inspired by many rock guitar players, then later, jazz players. He has studied the arts outside of the musical arts and brings that to his music. He prefers music that tells a story.

His instrumental songs and song titles provide the listener with an idea or theme for a story. Listen to the music and see for yourself. Enjoy!

Song stories

EP #3 "Winter 2022/23 Ensemble"

1) "Autumn Walk" is just a tune about an autumn walk. It is also about noticing beauty around us, all around us.

2) "It's Going Down" is a song about those times in life that we have either a great opportunity or great need, our big chance, and we better get it right disguised as a spy story.

3) "The Long Haul" is a song about the opposite of immediate gratification. It could be about anything from addiction recovery, career path, medical challenge, to being a parent, overhauling personal finance, or learning to play a musical instrument. It's about anything that takes some "stick to it ness" instead of "opening an Amazon" box and out pops out what we wanted.

EP #2 "Spring 2022, Guitar Ensemble Concert"

1) "A Tip of The Hat" is me "tipping my hat" to people who do high quality work with horses, horsemanship, and anyone else that follows their passion to the best of their ability.

2) "Crossing The Great Plains" is about crossing the North American Great Plains by wagon, horseback, car, truck, airplane or anything else. They are called Great Plains for a reason, Haha! The song ends with the Rocky Mountains seemingly rising from nowhere in the distance, like I saw at age 18 driving around the Western US in a car and sleeping roadside or in camp sites.

3) "Spanish Shuffle Dance" Shuffle dancing is fun to watch. I wanted to see if a shuffle dance tune could be written in A Harmonic minor (uncommon dance key) and A Major. It's just about having fun shuffle dancing or any other fun activity.

EP #1 "Spring 2021, Guitar Ensemble Concert"

1) "Despair Rescued Recovered Grateful" is a song out to anyone that has gone or is going through a crisis such as health, financial, legal, addiction, or other crisis. It's also a shout out to people who work in healthcare.

2) "Country Fried Swing Love Story" is a song out to anyone that has fallen in love or hopes to fall in love.

3) "Relaxed Peaceful Stroll on a Beach" is a song out to anyone that wants or needs to relax and chill out.
